Amid the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton skits that dominated “Saturday Night Live” last year, one apolitical new character emerged: David S. Pumpkins. Decidedly unscary despite his best efforts, Tom Hanks‘ Halloween-themed oddball became a fan favorite for reasons that have yet to be made entirely clear. Halloween is nearly upon us once more, and so Hanks delighted fans on Twitter last night by teasing a David S. Pumpkins screenplay.
Called “The David S. Pumpkins Song,” it begins thusly:
Music in. David Pumpkins sings as he magically brings pumpkins to life, making them float and sing. A very Sorcerer’s Apprentice–type sequence.
DAVID S. PUMPKINS
Who am I?
Whether this was the beginning of a future “SNL” skit or just a one-off joke is unknown as of press time, and a rep for Pumpkins did not immediately return a request for comment. We’ll know the truth by late October, when “Saturday Night Live” airs this year’s Halloween episode.
