Coming-of-age flicks are a dime a dozen, so you’d be forgiven for writing off Gia Coppola’s debut “Palo Alto” as a wash. But judging by this promising new trailer and stellar reviews since it first premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival, “Palo Alto” seems fresh, despite its familiar premise.
Based on several linked stories by James Franco (yes, he writes too), Coppola’s film tracks the lives of several teenagers (including “American Horror Story: Coven”‘s bad girl, Emma Roberts) as they navigate the highs and lows of adolescence.
Go here for Indiewire’s glowing review and watch the trailer below. The film opens in select theaters May 9th after playing at the Tribeca Film Festival.
