Tweetable Logline: Feature film based on documentary research about a trucker who tries to save the life of a girl being trafficked at his local Ohio truckstop.

Elevator Pitch: Crowbar is a trucker who is overworked and hooked on meth. When he is forced out of the house by his wife, he moves into the local truckstop where a young girl, Neveah, knocks on his door and asks if he’d like some “company.” As he learns more about her, he discovers that she is being trafficked by members of her own family. The film examines the choices he makes once he learns about her situation.

The crew is predominantly MFA students whom I’ve taught in the Ohio University School of Film. This is our final project together before I leave my Visiting Professor position.
Prior Credits: Divan (2004) released by Zeitgeist Films and premiered at Tribeca FF, Film Forum in NYC, Sundance Channel, etc.; Goyta (2006) Cannes Cinefondation; Williamsburg (2007) commissioned by Paris Premiere; Where Is Joel Baum (2012), winner of Best Actor at Starz Denver FF and Best Short at Female Eye FF; AHEYM documentary film (in progress) funded by NEH and WTIU/Indiana University.
About the Production: This film is a documentary based project, from initial inspiration to casting to the process used on set to tell the story. First, I heard of Truckers Against Trafficking and I was drawn to the cause. Then I heard about inner-family trafficking in southeast Ohio and that’s when I was determined to tell this story. My interest is to put a john in the position where he is forced to reconsider his perspective about women in prostitution. He slowly transitions from being a bystander to being an upstander (to borrow the term from Raphael Lemkin), compelled to take action.
