ROSEANNE - Roseanne premiere event with KABC contest winners. (ABC/Matt Petit)ROSEANNE BARR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)
ABC

The “Roseanne” revival has made headlines for two main reasons: its incredibly high ratings and the fact that its title character is a Donald Trump supporter. The show’s success has also drawn scrutiny to Roseanne Barr herself, who likewise counts herself among Trump’s fans — and whose online activities have proven highly controversial.

Barr recently deleted a number of attention-grabbing tweets, one of which falsely accuses David Hogg — a survivor of last month’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida who has since become an anti-gun activist — of performing a Nazi salute. (That particular accusation is ironic, given that Barr has also come under fire for a photoshoot in which she herself dressed as a Nazi and posed with burnt “Jew cookies” fresh from the oven.)

Among those who’ve called Barr out are “The Big Sick” co-writer/star Kumail Nanjiani, “Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost, and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Chelsea Peretti. In response to a tweet Barr posted earlier today claiming that “Diversity of Opinion is part of Diversity” (capitalization hers), Peretti asked, “Then why did you delete so many of your tweets expressing your opinions?”

Nanjiani, who says he can’t bring himself to watch “Roseanne” because he can’t watch “a person who mocks teens whose friends were murdered, who traffics in conspiracy theories that damage our world & reality.” His comments came in response to Sarah Silverman, who expressed her enjoyment of the new season of “Roseanne.”
