'Fargo' Season 3: Ewan McGregor Cast Dual Role FX Limited Series

Ewan McGregor is set to star in the third installment of the FX Emmy-winning anthology series “Fargo.” Much like his role in “Last Days in the Desert” where he had a dual role, the actor will portray two central characters, brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy.

Emmit Stussy is the parking lot king of Minnesota, a handsome, self-made real estate mogul and family man. He pretty much has it all and is a real American success story. His second role couldn’t be more opposite. Ray is a balding, pot-bellied guy who peaked in high school and is now a parole officer. Bitter about how his life turned out, he blames his brother, Emmit, for all his misfortunes. This season is supposedly set closer to present day than the first two.

McGregor is the first of many actors to be cast in the third season of the Noah Hawley series. Not much else is known about the plot, just that the showrunner previously told EW that there would be some connections to the previous seasons.

“There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first,” he said.

Season 1 starred Billy Bob Thornton and was set in 2006. The first installment, also featuring Martin Freeman and Colin Hanks, received three Emmy Awards. For its second season it shifted to 1979 and starred Patrick Wilson and Kristen Dunst. Once again, the series received critical acclaim.
