The 2016 Star Wars Celebration has officially kicked off in London with a bang! With the first day festivities giving fans a new sneak peek at “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and director Gareth Edwards describing the new planet Jedha, the convention is still filled with many more exciting announcements and discussions.

One of them is the “Star Wars Archaeology Panel” where Chief Creative Officer John Knoll, Vice President Executive Creative Director Doug Chiang and Supervising Art Director Kevin Jenkins take attendees on a journey through amazing stories and rarely seen imagery from the “Star Wars” films.

Within the first few minutes the trio starts talking about the Death Star Hanger, showing exclusive images of the set. Knoll also discusses what happened to the original Death Star model that was created in 1976 for “A New Hope” and how they had to recreate it for “Rogue One.”

“I’m sure you are familiar with the story of why we no longer have this model,” said Knoll. “It got packed up in a storage case after ‘New Hope’ completed and put into a warehouse as Lucas Film moved up to Northern California. And a few years later the lease came up and somebody at Lucas Films was like ‘yeah, just get rid of what’s in there, nothing is valuable.’” Adding, “We then would need to recreate a new model of it for ‘Rogue One.’”
