Listen Up Aspiring Filmmakers! 168 Films is Hosting Competition with $20,000 Prize

168 Films has just announced their 12th annual 168 Film Project speed filmmaking contest, which invites people from around the world to create and submit a film in 168 hours.

Individuals and teams must create a 10-minute film in a week (or 168 hours) based on a theme provided by 168 Films. This years theme is “The Gift.” Fees to enter go from anywhere between $168-$298 and include an invitation to attend the 168 Film Festival that takes place from September 4-6 in Los Angeles.

“Great surprises are coming. This year will be our most exciting ever,” director John David Ware said. “The competition is one of the most challenging out there. It allows beginners and pros alike to see who they are under pressure and learn the skills they will need to make it in this industry.”

Before the 168 hours, filmmakers are given a ten day pre-production period. Story ideas are also allowed to be brainstormed prior to the competition, but an actual script can only be written during the competition.

$20,000 cash and prizes will be awarded to the winning film.

In addition, 168 Films also announced a new entry category called KidVids. This section invites filmmakers to create films geared towards a target audience of kids either between the ages of 3-5 (G-rated movies) and 6-10 (PG-rated movies).

Pre-production for the contest begins on May 6 with the actual competition competition beginning May 23 and lasting until the end of the week.
