– Eight-time Golden Globe-winner Meryl Streep will receive the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 8, 2017. Jimmy Fallon will host the event. Chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Board of Directors, the award is given annually to a talented individual who has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment.

“Meryl’s enthralling body of work across a diverse set of genres has made her a role model over the past 40 years, and she will continue to do so for generations to come,” Lorenzo Soria, President of the HFPA, said in a statement. “She has always taken roles with strong female leads, creating art by showing vulnerability and portraying truth on the big screen.”

– The African American Film Critics Association will present Sidney Poitier with its inaugural AAFCA Icon Award on February 8, 2017 in Hollywood. The evening will celebrate the 50th anniversary release of the groundbreaking film “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” with a tribute that will include a salute to the life, career and enduring legacy of Poitier.

“It is beyond a privilege for AAFCA to receive this opportunity to honor a man who epitomizes timeless excellence,” Gil Robertson, AAFCA president, said in a statement. “Throughout his career, Mr. Poitier has embodied values that the AAFCA community admires and strives to duplicate. He set a standard of merit through his craft and commitment to humanity that has been a great blueprint for all artists.”

– Emmy Award winner Keegan-Michael Key will host the 2016 IFP Gotham Awards on November 28 in New York City. The actor, writer, and creator of “Key & Peele,” recently received a 2016 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Joana Vicente, executive director of IFP and the Made in NY Media Center said in a statement that Key’s “unique presence and brand of humor will be a perfect addition to what we expect will be a lively and exciting show.” Key was named one of Time Magazine’s “Most Influential People of 2014” and Entertainment Weekly’s “Entertainers of the Year of 2012.”

Pierce Brosnan will receive the European Achievement in World Cinema at the European Film Awards on December 10. Brosnan is receiving the award in recognition of his “rich and extensive career in front of the camera and behind the scenes as a producer.”

In addition to embodying the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond, in four Bond films between 1995 and 2002, Brosnan has starred in films from every genre, singing ABBA in the 2008 musical “Mamma Mia!,” playing the angry businessman and widower Philip in 2012’s “Love Is All You Need,” and starring as a neurotic hitman in 2005’s “The Matador.” The Irish actor has 80 credits to his name since starring in the TV movie “Murphy’s Stroke” in 1980.
