Will Ferrell has drawn big laughs by playing fictional sports stars like Ricky Bobby (“Talladega Nights”) and Jackie Moon (“Semi-Pro), but this past spring he put his money where his mouth is and actually joined Major League Baseball for real. In an effort to raise awareness for charities such as Stand Up to Cancer and Cancer for College, the comedian joined 10 MLB teams in the Spring Training Cactus League, playing 10 different positions during the season warm-up games.

Luckily for Ferrell fans everywhere, HBO documented the experience and has put the journey together for the upcoming documentary, “Ferrell Takes the Field.” The official trailer above finds Ferrell bringing his typical over-the-top shenanigans (arriving by helicopter, for instance) to the ballpark, suggesting the doc should be a treat for Ferrell and MLB fans alike.

“Ferrell Takes the Field” premieres Saturday, September 12 at 10pm on HBO.
