One of the big pieces of the TV lineup at this year’s SXSW was “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger,” a new superhero series coming to Freeform this summer. (As we pointed out in our festival preview, they even had an early screening inside a church.)
But audiences who couldn’t make the trip to Austin to see the pilot can still get a fresh look at the new series, courtesy of a new promo that puts both Cloak and Dagger front and center.
Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph star as a pair of teenagers who have very little in common despite some very particular newfound superpowers. Together, their journey to figure out where these abilities came from and what ties them to each other promises to lead to something bigger than just the two of them.
This new trailer teases their newfound roles, transforming from Tyrone and Tandy to Cloak and Dagger, fighting their respective past, the pressures of high school, and apparently an ancient prophecy that’s dooming one of them to die. “Beyond the Lights” director Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the pilot, while “Heroes” and “Daredevil” writer Joe Pokaski pulls double duty as creator and showrunner.
Watch the trailer (with a little bit of prep school basketball thrown in for good measure) below:
“Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” premieres Thursday, June 7 on Freeform.
