Netflix Renews ‘Lady Dynamite,’ ‘Real Rob,’ ‘Chelsea’ For Season 2

TCA: The streaming service also announces premiere dates for "One Day at a Time," "Easy," "Chef's Table" and other series.
Netflix's 'Lady Dynamite,' 'Real Rob,' 'Chelsea' Renewed For Season 2

Netflix has given a green light to second seasons of comedies “Lady Dynamite” and “Real Rob,” while new talk show “Chelsea” has been picked up for 90 more episodes.

The streaming service announced the renewals Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour. Also announced: an untitled Motown-themed animated kids series from writer/director Josh Wakely, while Jennifer Garner has been tapped to voice the lead character in the kids’ animated show “Llama Llama.”

Meanwhile, the series “Scrotal Recall” has been given a much tamer name: Now titled “Lovesick,” the show returns for an eight-episode second season on Nov. 17.

Chef's Table Season 2

Also: the third edition of “Chef’s Table,” dubbed “Chef’s Table: France,” premieres on Sept. 2 featuring these chefs:

  • Alain Passard, L’Arpege
  • Michel Troisgros, Maison Troisgros
  • Adeline Grattard, Yam’Tcha
  • Alexandre Couillon, La Marine

Other premieres include the “Easy” (“an anthology series from creator Joe Swanberg that explores diverse Chicago characters as they fumble through the modern maze of love, sex, technology and culture”) on Sept. 22.

The anthology series “Black Mirror” returns for Season 3 on Oct. 21, with these new stories: “San Junipero” (features Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis in an episode directed by Owen Harris); “Shut Up and Dance” (features Jerome Flynn and Alex Lawther in an episode directed by James Watkins); “Nosedive” (features Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve and James Norton in an episode directed by Joe Wright); “Men Against Fire” (stars Michael Kelly, Malachi Kirby and Madeline Brewer in an episode directed by Jakob Verbruggen); “Hated in the Nation” (features Kelly MacDonald in an episode directed by James Hawes); and “Play Test” (Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen star in an episode directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

Among other premieres: The second installment of “The Ranch” season 1 returns on Oct. 7; docuseries “Captive” (from executive producer Doug Liman) bows Dec. 9; and Norman Lear’s new take on “One Day at a Time” premieres Jan. 6, 2017.
