‘Rosewater’ and ‘The Humbling’ to Bookend 21st Austin Film Festival

The Austin Film Festival has announced its lineup for its 2014 incarnation, which will take place from October 23-30.

The opening night film will be the U.S. premiere of Barry Levinson’s “The Humbling.” Based on the Philip Roth novel of the same name, “The Humbling” follows an aged and addled actor (Al Pacino) and his affair with a much younger woman (Greta Gerwig).

Writer-director Richard LaGravenese will attend the festival to present his adaptation of the Jason Robert Brown musical “The Last 5 Years,” starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

Jon Stewart and journalist Maziar Bahari will present Stewart’s directorial debut, “Rosewater,” as the closing night film on October 30. “Rosewater” is based on Bahari’s New York Times best-selling memoir “Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival.”

Edward Zwick will attend the festival to accept the Extraordinary Contribution to Film Award for his work on such films as “Glory,” “Legends of the Fall,” among others, and his television producing on such shows as “My So-Called Life” and “Once and Again.” Winnie Holzman (creator of “My So-Called Life”) will join Zwick for a conversation on their work in television.
