Listen: Indiewire's Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson Debate 'Jersey Boys,' 'Boyhood,' the Telluride/Toronto Face-Off and More 'Screen Talk'

In the latest edition of “Screen Talk,” Indiewire’s new podcast, chief film critic Eric Kohn and Thompson on Hollywood’s Anne Thompson delve into the results of our recent critics’ poll of the best movies released so far this year while anticipating one movie likely to show up on many critics’ top 10 lists at the end of the year: Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood,” which opens in July. In addition heaping praise on the movie, Kohn and Thompson speculate about the surprising commercial prospects for the 12-year-long production.

Looking ahead to the fall movie season, they discuss the new trailer for “Birdman” as well as the ongoing tension between the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, speculating about how their rivalry could impact the end of the year.

Turning to movies in new release, they’re both lukewarm about Clint Eastwood’s “Jersey Boys,” but offer several alternatives, including Roman Polanski’s “Venus in Fur,” the microbudget science fiction effort “Coherence” and Joanna Hogg’s unconventional drama “Exhibition.”

Finally, the duo closes out with another edition of “Nikki Watch,” their ongoing analysis of Nikki Finke’s bizarre return to the world of online journalism.
