Patricio Guzmán’s essay doc “The Pearl Button” has
found a distribution home at Kino Lorber.

The film premiered at Berlinale to across-the-board
acclaim, with our own A review saying: “‘The Pearl Button’ is a vivid,
essential portal to understanding not only the heritage of a nation, but also
the art of nonfiction cinema.”

The synopsis out of Berlin reads: “Chile, with its 2,670 miles of coastline and the largest archipelago in the world, presents a supernatural landscape. In it are volcanoes, mountains and glaciers. In it are the voices of the Patagonian Indigenous people, the first English sailors and also those of its political prisoners. Some say that water has memory. This film shows that it also has a voice.”

Richard Lorber commented: “Patricio Guzmán has accomplished the rare cinematic feat of revealing the universal in the particular. We are honored to bring to American audiences a work of profound poetic and political vision.”

No release date has yet been announced.
