Web Series ‘teenagers’ Wants to Dig Past the Usual Young Adult Drama

Logline: Unhindered by politics or network censorship, “teenagers” is a dark, fresh and educational web series that authentically illustrates the world of millennial youth, written and created by filmmakers who have experienced it first-hand.
Elevator Pitch:
“Degrassi meets HBO.” We dig deeper than shows like “Degrassi,” moving beyond the censored “polish” of most teen dramas, creating a series that is authentic, cinematic and exciting for teenagers and adults. Think John Hughes’ “The Breakfast Club” meets Larry Clark’s “Kids” in a series of short, punchy, thrilling, and digestible episodes. “teenagers” (purposefully spelt with a miniscule ‘t’) is a mirror to North America’s multicultural society. Our gang of diverse, eclectic characters serve up endless drama, tackling relatable and socially relevant themes and issues. We’ve already released 18 episodes, with nearly 8 million hits online. Now, we need you.

After season 1, T. J. Scott reached out to us and joined as executive producer to help us develop the series for television. He has directed dozens of series, including “Gotham,” “Longmire,” “Bates Motel,” “Xena,” “Orphan Black” (for which he won a Canadian Screen Award, Canada’s Emmy) and more.
About the Film:
As I turned 19, closing in on the expiration of my teenage-dom, I realized that the shows I had been consuming were problematic on a number of levels. Shows like “One Tree Hill” seemed too white-washed, glossy, and frankly, unrealistic. There were no people of colour, no LGBT folks… And when there was, they were either evil, damaged or hyper sexualized. “teenagers” is a much-needed vehicle for a new generation of young people who have come of age in the 2010s and who are tired of older people writing our stories for us.
Current Status: Self-financed the first two seasons, recently released a 20 minute “prologue” episode for season 3 and are currently fundraising remaining season 3 episodes.
