Eli Roth’s ‘The Green Inferno’ Will Open in Theaters After All

Eli Roth‘s cannibal horror film “The Green Inferno” will open on September 25 on approximately 1,000 screens in North America two years after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival. Open Road originally planned to release the film after picking up rights at the festival. It’s now being released through BH Tilt, Blumhouse Productions‘ new label dedicated to multi-platform releases for genre film, in collaboration with Universal Pictures and High Top Releasing.
As Roth told Indiewire at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where his latest film “Knock Knock” premiered, “The Green Inferno” delay is an all too common occurrence for the director. His first project, “Chowdaheads,” was to feature in WCW wrestling events, until the CEO got fired the weekend before it was scheduled to be aired. It has still never appeared on television. His breakthrough debut feature, “Cabin Fever,” was written in 1995 but it took Roth six years to raise the money for production, as no studios would show interest. Despite the film’s success, “Hostel” likewise faced a tedious journey before it saw a proper release.
