It’s been a long time coming, but you’ve finally got Parker back where she’s at her best  — back on HBO, back in New York and back in the mid-life relationship grinder. However, Parker’s return to HBO doesn’t mark the return of the shoe-crazy Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City.” In “Divorce,” Parker plays Frances, a successful headhunter (a.k.a. “executive recruiter”) and mother of two, who is unhappily married to Robert (Thomas Haden Church).

After eight years of holy wedlock, Frances tells Robert they’re headed for the “Big D” — and she doesn’t mean Dallas — citing his emotional infidelity and mustache as important causative factors.

In a review of the show from Indiewire’s own Ben Travers, he writes, “So much of what Frances and Robert go through feels like a surprise to them, even if they thought they generally understood what they were in for. Audiences should take note, without fearing to laugh when a well-timed moment of candor breaks the awkward silence.”
