Broad Green Pictures Acquires Ramin Bahrani's '99 Homes' $3 Million Deal

Ever since Ramin Bahrani‘s American housing crisis drama “99 Homes” premiered to critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival, awards pundits have been wondering when a distributor would step up with an acquisition deal. After following up Venice with equally-as-strong showings at Telluride and Toronto, Broad Green Pictures has picked up “99 Homes” in a $3 million deal, Deadline reports.

While the blood-boiling performances from stars Andrew Garfield and Michael Shannon have been earning Oscar buzz, Broad Green Pictures will hold the film through this year’s awards season and release it in Spring 2015, which has become quite a dynamite season for independent releases in the past couple of years. “99 Homes” may miss out on some awards love as a result, but a Spring release means it won’t have to compete against a handful of independent awards contenders, meaning a healthy box office run should be in store for the drama. “99 Homes” stars Garfield as an Orlando construction worker whose family is evicted from their home by a vicious real estate broker (Shannon). “I’m very happy to partner with Broad Green Pictures,” says Bahrani. “Their passion and plan for this film felt like the perfect way to bring it to the U.S. I’m thrilled to have such committed partners to make sure this film reaches a very wide audience.”
