Deadly Accident SXSW: Festival Continues with Slight Schedule Changes

SXSW attendees woke Thursday morning to the tragic news that at 12:30 a.m. two people were killed and 23 others injured
when a drunk driver plowed into a large crowd outside a club hosting one of the
festival’s music showcases.

The crash occurred outside the Mohawk Bar, where a police investigation is now underway.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the tragic
accident that took place last night here in Austin. We appreciate and
commend the first responders as well as the city agencies who so quickly
sprung into action,” SXSW said in a statement issued Thursday. “We will be making schedule and venue changes for programming in the
surrounding area of last night’s events. All other programming will
continue as previously scheduled.

Organizers directed attendees to check the fest’s web site and watch the fest’s Twitter feed (twitter.com/sxsw) for schedule updates. Festival organizers sent a tweet on Thursday morning asking witnesses to call the Austin Police Department with any information about the crash.
