Watch: John Oliver Wants You to Make the Most of Your Leap Second

Watch: John Oliver Wants You to Make the Most of Your Leap Second

On Sunday night’s episode of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” he revealed that on this very Tuesday scientists are adding an extra second to the atomic clocks. Occurring just before 8pm EST, the additional second makes up for the mismatch in clocks and earth’s rotation. It’s not as exciting as Leap Year, when we have an extra day, or Daylight Savings, when we get an extra hour of sleep. Nonetheless, Leap Second, which only occurs every couple years, is worth a celebration. You may think a second is irrelevant, but John Oliver is determined to get you to make the most out of this rare speckle in time. Because you can do a lot more in a second than you think.

But to save you the time of thinking what to do with that second, the “Last Week Tonight” team set up a website where you can watch a variety of one second videos. Have you ever wondered what noise a baby sloth makes? Have you ever desired to relive the moment when Mariah Carey’s dog attacked her cat on an episode of “Cribs?” If you answered yes, check out spendyourleapsecondhere.com for that and more.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” will return Sunday, July 12, at 11pm on HBO.
