Sundance Institute Continues Festivals in London and Hong Kong
It’s no question that films need to appeal to an international audience more than ever. Therefore, The Sundance Institute has announced the continuation of film festivals in Hong Kong (September 17-27, 2015) and London (2016). The festivals will draw their selections largely from the Sundance festival in Park City in an effort to bring independent films abroad.
Robert Redford, President and Founder of Sundance Institute, said, “We’ve nurtured filmmakers around the globe for many years now and these experiences have brought a rich perspective to all we do. Exploring international opportunities for the diverse landscape of American independent storytelling is an exciting proposition, and something to which we are equally committed.”
Sundance Film Festival: Hong Kong will take place over two consecutive weekends at The Metroplex, a new cineplex in Kowloon Bay. This is the second year of Sundance screenings in Hong Kong. Last year’s premieres included “Whiplash” and “Life After Beth.”
Sundance Film Festival: London will take place at the new Picturehouse Central. This will be the fourth year of London screenings, after festivals in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Previous features have included the UK premieres of “Obvious Child,” “The Queen of Versailles” and “Upstream Color.”
