DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary film festival, has announced its second annual Visionaries Tribute, which will take place during a luncheon and present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Jon Albert, Barbara Kopple and Frederick Wiseman.

Alpert is the co-founder of New York’s Downtown Community Television (DCTV), the country’s oldest nonprofit community media center, and has received 15 Emmy Awards. His documentaries include “One Year in the Life of Crime,” “Baghdad ER” and the Oscar-nominated shorts “Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province” and “Redemption.”

Kopple is a two-time Academy Award winner, having won for acclaimed films “Harlan County USA” and “American Dream.” Her latest documentary, “Miss Sharon Jones!,” will be screening at TIFF and having its official U.S. premiere as the opening night film at DOC NYC on November 12. The film follows the titular soul singer as she battles cancer and prepares for a musical comeback with her band, The Dap-Kings.

Wiseman is a pioneer of the genre thanks to his landmark 1967 debut, “Titicut Follies.” He is the recipient of the George Polk Career Award and the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion, among many honors. His latest, “In Jackson Heights,” will be stopping at numerous fall festivals, including TIFF and NYFF.

“We’re delighted to give Lifetime Achievement Awards to three extraordinary filmmakers who continue to dazzle us with outstanding new work,” said DOC NYC artistic director Thom Powers. “On November 12, there’ll be a gathering of documentary talent like none other.

DOC NYC runs November 12-19.
