“Mad Max: Fury Road” was the Cinderella story of last year’s Oscar season. After sitting in development hell for years and enduring a tumultuous production (all those rumors about Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron hating each other on set were pretty much true), George Miller unleashed his vision to some of the year’s most deafening critical acclaim. The film appeared on numerous end-of-the-year lists and earned 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. It ended up dominating the below-the-line categories and winning six awards.

As we wait to see if Miller will return with any future installments in the “Mad Max” series, watch the video below to see just how crazy all the car chases and stunt work really was on set. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is now on DVD and Blu-ray and can be streamed on HBO Now.
