Watch: Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are Star-Crossed Lovers in Gorgeous ‘Carol’ Trailer

After dazzling audiences at the Cannes Film Festival and earning more praise at Telluride over the weekend, Todd Haynes‘ “Carol” is shaping up to be quite the awards contender this season. As the film gears up for screenings at the New York Film Festival, The Weinstein Company has released an official U.S. trailer and it’s quite the emotional stunner.
Based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel “The Price of Salt,” the film chronicles the blossoming romance between two women in 1950’s New York City, one a married wife (two-time Oscar winner Blanchett) and the other a lonely department store worker (Mara). Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler and Jake Lacy also star.
Set against some heartbreaking narration from Blanchett, the new trailer suggests a tour-de-force from its lead actresses and impeccable director.
“Carol” hits theaters November 20.
