‘GLOW’ Season 2 Teaser: The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling Return, and They’re Maniacs — Watch

While “Stranger Things” made audiences nostalgic for conventional 80s pop culture, its sister show “GLOW” explored a lesser-known phenomena from that era: professional women’s wrestling promotions. Now back for a new season, it looks like the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are just getting started.

Loosely adapted from the 80s show of the same name, “GLOW” tells the story of Ruth (Alison Brie), an aspiring actress thrown in the world of women’s wrestling. The first season explores the women’s new lives as professional wrestlers. Season 2, which premieres in June, looks like it’ll focus more on the struggles that come with making a television show out of them.

But in this first teaser, the ladies seem more than ready for the challenge. Getting ready in the locker room to Michael Sembello’s “Maniac,” they lip-sync and dance passionately into the camera in a definite homage to the “Flashdance” music video. Florescent outlines leap from their bodies. As Debbie (Betty Gilpin) finishes her makeup, the scene transforms and everyone is in their full spandex glory and ready for the chorus.

That’s when manager Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron) interrupts. “Hey, what’s going on here?” he says. “We got a show to do!” The ladies pause, looking more embarrassed that he stopped the montage than at being caught having fun.

Created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, “GLOW” stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, and Marc Maron. Annabella Sciorra (“The Sopranos”), Shakira Barrera (“East Los High”), and Wyatt Nash (“Dear White People”) will be joining the cast in Season 2.

Check out the exclusive first teaser below.

“GLOW” Season 2 will be available for streaming on June 29.
