Mubi has been a preferred streaming platform among arthouse-inclined cinephiles for years. It recently upped its game by entering the sphere of theatrical distribution with Rachel Lang’s “Baden Baden,” which opened in New York and Los Angeles on November 25. Next on the docket is Eugène Green‘s “Son of Joseph,” which is due in theaters early next year. Watch its trailer below.
Though an exciting development, this was also a long time coming. Paul Thomas Anderson’s documentary “Junun” premiered exclusively on Mubi immediately after premiering at the New York Film Festival last year, and the company partnered on the UK releases of both “Arabian Nights” and “The Blue Room.” “Connecting exceptional films with audiences who may not otherwise have the chance to see them is at the heart of what we do,” the company’s CEO and founder, Efe Cakarel, said of the development.
“Son of Joseph” premiered at Berlin this year and is preceded by Green’s “La Sapienza.” Mubi will release it in theaters on December 16.
