New footage of Rick Famuyiwa‘s acclaimed coming-of-age tale “Dope” has been unveiled.

The festival smash, coming off of a prize-winning run at the Sundance Film Festival, is currently being showcased in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. It’s slated for theatrical release next month.

The official synopsis for “Dope” reads: “The hit movie out of the Sundance Film Festival, ‘Dope’ tells the story of Malcolm (Shameik Moore) who is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles.  A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.” Zoe Kravitz and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” breakout Tony Revolori co-star.

The film has quite the pedigree, with Forest Whitaker signed on as a producer, Sean Combs as an executive producer and Pharrell Williams as a musical contributor. The newly-surfaced clip (above) hints at the breezily funny and infectiously musical indie that’s had critics talking for months, while also providing an intriguing introduction into the world of Malcolm and company.

Watch the clip at the top of this post. “Dope” hits theaters on June 19.
