Watch: Breathtaking 2-Minute Single Take Shot From Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Gravity’ Sets Up Eery Premise (Updated With Second Clip)
Visionary helmer Alfonso Cuarón has kept his fans waiting a whopping
seven years for a follow-up to his dystopian downer “Children of Men,”
and by all accounts, he hasn’t been resting on his laurels. His seventh
feature “Gravity” has been a long time coming, but the 3D project is no
doubt his most ambitious and ballsiest endeavor to date (over the weekend at Comic-Con he said “the whole film was a miscalculation,” in that it took four-and-a-half years to bring to the screen.)
In the sci-fi
film, Cuarón finds George Clooney and Sandra Bullock suiting up as two
astronauts struggling to survive on a remote space station after
satellite debris wipes out the
rest of the crew and their ship. Featuring a cast of just two and a dark
premise, the film is an anomaly for distributor Warner Bros., who’s
no doubt betting it has a game changer on its hands.

In its second trailer for the film, Warner Bros. has decided to forgo the traditional promotional route by simply showcasing a two-minute single take shot from the film that serves to establish why Bullock’s character finds herself alone in space, separated from Clooney and the station. It’s harrowing stuff.
“Gravity” world premieres as the opening night film of the Venice Film Festival before playing at the Toronto International Film Festival. Warner Bros. opens it wide October 4.
