How to Watch ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ on Disney+

It’s safe to say that Marvel has found a sweet spot in the streaming universe. Now that “WandaVision” has wrapped up a successful premiere season, “The Falcon and the Winter Solider” is next on the landing strip. The highly anticipated superhero series is now available on Disney+. With a subscription, of course.

If you’re not already signed up for Disney+, there are a couple of options to pick from. The streaming service offers monthly subscriptions for just $7.99, or $79.99 for the yearly package (the prices will go up slightly on March 26).

Helmed by Emmy-winning director Kari Skogland, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” a six-episode miniseries, begins after the events in “Avengers Endgame.” Anthony Mackie returns to his role as Falcon, a.k.a. Sam Wilson, a former airman in the U.S. Air Force. Sebastian Stan stars Winter Soldier, a.k.a. Bucky Barnes, a World War II vet and Captain America’s best friend. The cast also includes Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp, and Wyatt Russell.

The Disney+ series follows Falcon and Winter Solder as they team together for a global adventure — but not without a few obstacles to test their patience and survival skills. As Marvel fans already know, these two are a seemingly unconventional pairing, being that they didn’t exactly start out as friends (but Falcon’s loyalty to Captain America brought them together.) Nonetheless, Falcon and Winter Soldier are two of the most popular super heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and since Captain America passed the torch (or shield, to be specific) to Falcon, there’s lots of ground to potentially cover in the series, especially in digging deeper into character back stories.

“The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” is the latest in a string of new Marvel releases in the works with Disney+. Winter Soldier was first introduced in Captain America comic books in 1941. Falcon debuted in the comics in 1969.

“I’m basically the eyes and ears of the audience, if you were put in that position where you could go out and fight alongside superheroes,” Mackie said in an interview with Variety. “It adds a really nice quality to him, that he’s a regular guy who can go out there and do special things.”

After Chris Evans ended his run as Captain America, Mackie was rumored to possibly take over the character. But his portrayal of Falcon marks a milestone for MCU. “Sam Wilson as played by Mackie is different than a Thor or a Black Panther, because he’s not from another planet or a king from another country,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “He’s an African American man. He’s got experience in the military and doing grief counseling with soldiers who have PTSD. But where did he grow up? Who is his family? Mackie was excited to dig into it as this man, this Black man in particular, in the Marvel version of the world outside our window.”

Other Marvel Studios series slated to follow “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” are “Loki,” “What If…?,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Hawkeye,” “Moon Knight,” “She-Hulk,” “Secret Invasion,” “Ironheart,” “Armor Wars,” and an untitled Wakanda series from “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler. “Loki” will be the very next series to follow on Disney+, with a premiere date set for June 11.

The best value for money that Disney offers is their bundle, with not just Disney+ but Hulu and ESPN+ for $13.99 a month with ads, or $19.99 without ads. Besides Marvel titles, Disney+ boasts an extensive library of original films and shows, such as “The Mandalorian,” “Hamilton,” and Pixar’s “Soul.”
