‘Warcraft’ Chinese Social Media Account Appears To Hint At Sequel Possibilities

The site states that the first film is a starting point, not the end.

U.S. audiences weren’t as thrilled about the Duncan Jones-directed action flick, “Warcraft,” as oversees fans were. The video game adaptation opened in the U.S. with a disappointing $24 million, but in its first five days in China made $156 million. So far the mega-movie has pulled in over $422 million worldwide, so it’s not surprising to see that talks of a sequel have started to surface.

In a post shared on the Chinese website Wiebo, the official social media account for the film, it stated that this is just the beginning of the “Warcraft” movie universe, presumably meaning that a sequel is in the works. That same post was seen on the official Reddit for World of Warcraft where a user translated the text for others to read.

“Translation: ‘Warcraft’s’ theatrical run is coming to an end. But the chapter of a new decade has just begun. It’s a starting point, not an end point. We don’t say goodbye now because we’ll meet you again,” says the translation courtesy of Slash Film.

The site notes that the translation is a little rough, but when running the text on Google Translate it gives you the same idea.

On Reddit, it seems that fans are pretty pumped about the news. While many critics bashed the movie, the avid video gamers gave it positive reviews. In China alone, “Warcraft” even surpassed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and all of the Marvel films, making it the most successful video game film of all time.

Meanwhile, the studio has made no comments about a potential sequel, but we’ll keep our ears open for any more news.
