Watch: 'Saw' Returns to Theaters to Remind You How Horror is Done

Jigsaw is back with his twisted games and horrific torture porn. But this isn’t just another bloody 3D sequel. In honor of the film’s 10th anniversary, Lionsgate is re-releasing the original “Saw” on — you guessed it — October 31.

“Saw” has become a massive franchise with a devoted cult following. But, the horror flick came from humble beginnings: Australian director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell had trouble getting the film off the ground, eventually making it for a production budget of around $1 million. The response? About $103 million in worldwide box office revenue. Though the first film was intended to be a mystery thriller, this relatively minor moment of appendage gore ignited a reinvigoration of the torture porn genre — something that “Saw” has obviously used to its advantage in the sequels.
