Watch: Tribeca Doc 'TransFatty Lives' Battles ALS Emotional Trailer

In the autobiographical documentary “TransFatty Lives,” director Patrick O’Brien, best known as the eponymous onetime NYC DJ and Internet meme-making superstar, turns the camera on himself to document his life after being diagnosed with ALS in 2005 and given only 2-5 years to live. The result is a brazen, illustrative and deeply personal account of what it’s like to live when you find out you are going to die.

In the emotional trailer above, O’Brien confronts his diagnosis with inspiring optimism. Combining home movie footage with personal accounts from friends and clips from his days of Internet stardom, “TransFatty Lives” is bound to be one of the more life-affirming features at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary will have its world premiere April 16.
