The last couple of weeks, Steven Soderbergh‘s Cinemax medical drama “The Knick” has let us delve into the mind of antihero surgeon Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen). In these two clips from Episode 3 of the drama, Dr. Thackery must decide whether or not to perform surgery on an old love.

In the first clip, Dr. Thackery refuses to see a patient who has come in without an appointment, until he discovers that she is somebody from his past. In the second, Dr. Thackery contemplates operating on this woman — despite his attitude, it’s a decision that may make him more sympathetic than we have been led to believe.
Episode 3, entitled “The Busy Flea,” will air Friday August 22 at 10pm on Cinemax.
