Today in potential dream-casting, Gillian Anderson‘s name has come up in a fan campaign to name the next James Bond. Daniel Craig is said to be done with the long-running spy franchise after starring in four films (“Casino Royale,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall” and “Spectre”), leading to an especially heightened level of speculation as to who might serve as his replacement. Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston are among the actors whose names have come up most frequently in the search for a new 007, but the #NextBond hashtag yielded a surprising choice among fans: the former “X-Files” and “Hannibal” star.”

The untitled 25th Bond film has not gone into production and no casting news is expected for some time. Still, casting Anderson, while a bit of a left-field move for a role that has always been played by men, wouldn’t be out of line with the upcoming all-female “Ghostbusters” remake.
