Watch: Can 'Marco Polo' Be Netflix's 'Game of Thrones'?

Who’s ready for another epic historical series? Netflix, host to political intrigue thriller “House of Cards” and the ladies-in-prison dramedy “Orange is the New Black,” is hopping on the historical bandwagon with “Marco Polo.”
Newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy stars as the titular character; the famed explorer who introduced Europeans to Central Asia and China. Fittingly, the drama’s first ten episodes were shot in Italy, Kazakhstan and Malaysia.
The new trailer promises epic sets, international intrigue, forbidden romance, and of course, a bit of that good old sex and violence. Not to mention a pretty badass looking Kublai Khan.

John Fusco, who wrote the Academy-Award nominated feature “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron,” created the series and will act as executive producer and showrunner along with Dan Minahan, whose previous work on “Game of Thrones” will no doubt be helpful. The series hits Netflix December 12. Check out the slightly not-safe-for-work trailer below:
