– The recently launched distribution company Grasshopper Film is moving into production. This week marks the opening of a brand new production company, Grasshopper+Marks Productions, that will join together three industry executives: Ryan Krivoshey, Founder & President of Grasshopper Film, Beata Gutman, Founder & President of Grasshopper Global, and Andy Marks, President of Marks Entertainment + Media.

Grasshopper+Marks will focus on issue-based, artistic storytelling directed by award winning filmmakers from across the world. Emphasizing Content with a Conscience, Grasshopper+Marks will connect brands, non-profits, foundations and movements with filmmakers who will bring their singular vision to each project.

The company already has a feature-length documentary slated for a 2017 festival premiere in production, with more details to come.

– After eleven years, Elena Fortes is leaving her role as Director of Ambulante in order to become part of the Board of Directors, and embark on a new project. Fortes founded the organization, along with Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna and Pablo Cruz. Ambulante will now be lead by Paulina Suárez Hesketh, who has a wide trajectory as a curator and programmer.

“It is extremely difficult to distance myself from a project that is an inherent part of who I am,” Fortes said of the news. “Since we started with Ambulante, much has changed in the cinematic landscape in Mexico. I am happy to have contributed, along with my team, to grant documentary a place in Mexico. Throughout the last eleven years, we have managed to screen more than 750 films in 22 states and more than 20 countries, reaching almost 740,000 spectators, with the support of more than 1,900 volunteers and the participation of over 700 guests.”

She continued, “In this new phase that now begins, I am sure that Paulina will keep strengthening the organization and will add a new vision that will allow it to conquer new audiences and spaces. She has been a source of inspiration for me, and I am sure she will be one for the Ambulante family and our audiences.”

Paulina Suárez will join the team on August 1.

– Long-time SXSW staffer Rebecca Feferman is moving on after 8 years with the organization.

In an email sent to friends and associates, Feferman, who currently serves as Head of Convergence, wrote: “I’ve decided to move on and pursue new adventures in the wider worlds of sports + entertainment. I was fortunate to wear many hats during my tenure and it’s been a fantastic ride. Not often can one explore so many passions and stretch every muscle within a single setting, much less one as cool and influential as SXSW. The decision to leave did not come easy, and I’m extremely grateful to my SX family, as well as all of you I’ve been privileged to work with over the years.”

Her last day will be on July 29.
