Magnolia Pictures Acquires Sex Comedy 'The Little Death'

Magnolia Pictures has acquired all North American rights to “The Little Death,” a raunchy sex comedy from Australian actor Josh Lawson, the company announced today. The film, which premiered earlier this month at the Toronto International Film Festival, finds Lawson pulling triple-duty as director, screenwriter and star, and should help raise the profile of the comedian best known for supporting turns in “The Campaign,” “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” and “House of Lies.”

Starring Lawson opposite Bojana Novakovic (“Burning Man”), Damon Herriman (“J. Edgar”), Kate Mulvany (“The Great Gatsby”) and more, “The Little Death” goes behind the curtain windows of five suburban couples to reveal their humorous, edgy sex lives. From a man having an extramarital affair to a wife who can only find pleasure in her husband’s pain, the comedy explores a wide range of sexual fetishes and the emotional repercussions that come from sharing them.

“‘The Little Death’ is is a terrifically funny film that elegantly walks the line between a shockingly funny sex humor and a warmly affectionate look at adult relationships,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles in a statement. The film was produced by Jamie Hilton, Michael Petroni and Matt Reeder for See Pictures, and executive produced by Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Josh Pomeranz, Viv Scanu and Stephen Boyle.

Magnolia Pictures is currently eyeing a 2015 release.
