“The Defenders” is so close that Comic-Con audiences could almost taste the superhero goodness.

Netflix inundated the crowd gathered in Ballroom 20 of San Diego’s Convention Center Thursday with multiple never-before-seen clips and a teaser trailer for the new series “Marvel’s Luke Cage.” The series follows super-strong and unbreakable Luke Cage (Mike Colter) in a modern-day Harlem. Alas, the clips have not been released (yet), but check out the teaser:

Cheo Hodari Coker, who directed the series, noted that in this day and age, “The world is ready for a bulletproof black man.” He also pointed out that hip-hop had a huge influence on the show — in the soundtrack, with musical guest stars and with its episode titles, all taken from Gang Starr song titles. Coker noted that “Luke Cage” was the “Wu-Tang-ification of the Marvel Universe.”

Another video the panel showed also incorporated footage from “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones” and the previously unseen “Luke Cage.” Watch the video triptych:

Marvel wasn’t content with touting just three-quarters of “The Defenders” though. Fans also saw a sneak peek of the next series, “Iron Fist,” starring Finn Jones. The footage sketched a backstory that included a childhood tragedy, being raised by Buddhist monks and badass powers, judging by Iron Fist blasting through a door.

The “Iron Fist” footage was quickly followed by debuting the logo for “The Defenders,” which you can check out here:

Another panel highlight included an appearance by Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher – Frank Castle. Netflix ordered an official “Punisher” spin-off in April.

Then, bringing “The Defenders” news full circle, Marvel announced that Netflix had renewed “Daredevil” for a third season. Was there ever any doubt?

“Luke Cage” also stars Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley and Theo Rossi. Netflix will release all episodes worldwide on Sept. 30.
