Mike Myers has paid tribute to his “Austin Powers” co-star Verne Troyer, who died yesterday at age 49. Referring to the actor as a “beacon of positivity,” Myers says in a statement that Troyer “will be greatly missed.” The two shared the screen together in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” and “The Love Guru.”

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him,” the actor said in a statement. “It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”

“Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh,” reads a message posted on Troyer’s social-media accounts yesterday. “Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined.”

No cause of death has been given, but the statement also mentions that depression and suicide are “very serious issues.”
