Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite. In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Ovum

Tweetable Logline: A dark comedy about designer eggs…and the girls who hatch them!

Elevator Pitch: “Ovum” is a dark comedy about a quirky Brooklyn actress who tries The Method to approach an Off-Broadway role and is drawn into the strange world of egg donation clinics and the unlikely characters who populate them: from unscrupulous doctors with mind bending fertility drugs to the broken, nihilistic model donors. It was based on screenwriter Sonja O’Hara’s own experience an egg donor in New York City and was partially funded by the compensation she received for selling her eggs.

Production Team:

Director: Matt Ott
Writer: Sonja O’Hara
Producers: Jack Turner, Vincent Petrosini, Sonja O’Hara, Anna Lauren Farrell
Actors: Hassan Johnson (“The Wire”), Katie Morrison (“Imagine I’m Beautiful”), Sonja O’Hara
Editor: Dan McBride, Mike Mazzotta

About the Film: During production, writer/performer O’Hara became an egg donor while portraying the lead character on screen, further blurring the boundaries between fantasy and reality in this provocative rumination on risking everything for art. “Ovum” will be debuting at The Boston International Film Festival on April 19th and is an official selection at The Brooklyn Girl Film Festival. San Francisco-based Mutha Magazine described “Ovum” as “a provocative, feminist movie meant to spur a conversation about eugenics, reproduction and the unseen side of the market for elite and top shelf eggs.”

Current Status: We will be premiering on April 19th at BIFF!
