“Deep and dark character studies, crazy Japanese Manga come to life, daddy-issues, handicaps, survival, revenge and even a little remastering are all on display this year,” said SXSW Producer & Senior Programmer Jarod Neece in an official statement. “You’ll hear from veteran directors and producers perfecting their craft to filmmakers that are about to burst onto the scene. And don’t sleep on the Festival Favorites and Special Events, lots of weird and wild films in those screening sections, too!”
The Festival Favorites section in particular will be home to some of the buzziest films that just premiered at Sundance last month, including Kirsten’s Johnson biographical documentary “Cameraperson,” Taika Waititi’s adventure “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” and Chad Hartigan’s award-winning “Morris From America.” The acclaimed Iranian horror film “Under the Shadow” will be screening in the Midnighters section.
The 2016 SXSW Film Festival kicks off on Friday, March 11 with the world premiere of Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some.” The festival runs through March 19. Check out the final additions to the lineup below. Information provided by SXSW.
