‘Rick and Morty’ Co-Creator Dan Harmon Reveals His Favorite Five Episodes

We may keep a running tab of our favorite “Rick and Morty” episodes, but how does our list compare to that of co-creator Dan Harmon? Harmon recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly his five favorite episodes, and they’re all ones that received the best fan response. Incidentally, there’s one episode Harmon regrets making, and it’s largely because of criticism he received. “Like the bad parent I am, I choose children that the public chooses,” he said. I don’t care how hard I worked on an episode, if fans hate it, it’s bad, and I hate it too.”

Here are Harmon’s top five episodes, reluctantly chosen and in no particular order:

“Pickle Rick”

“The Ricklantis Mix-Up”

“Rick Potion #9”

Harmon: “It’s not only a good episode, it also so represents what’s possible and unique about the show itself.”

“Auto Erotic Assimilation”

“Big Trouble in Little Sanchez”

As for Harmon’s least favorite episode, this one hurts: “It’s the one with the Amazonian women [‘Raising Gazorpazorp’]. I was so proud while I was writing it and then I read people’s comments on it how it felt stale and ‘80s in its observations about gender. And now I hate it and want it to die by fire. But that’s because of people’s reactions or I would love it.”
