After what feels like an eternity, the “Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey” trailer is finally here. Empire posted the video for writer-director Terrence Malick’s decades-in-the-making documentary Friday, and the movie looks every bit as stunning as fans of Malick would expect.

“Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey” is a history of the cosmos that covers the whole of time, from the Big Bang to the birth of human life to the collapse of the universe (whenever that happens). Malick’s first documentary was rumored to be headed to Cannes this year before being notably absent from the lineup.
“Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey” is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, but doesn’t yet have a U.S. release date. The film is being released in two formats: A 40-minute IMAX version narrated by Brad Pitt, whose Plan B helped produce the movie, and a feature-length version narrated by Cate Blanchett. Described as a documentary tie-in to “The Tree of Life,” the film’s origins can be traced back to Malick’s “Q,” a project he first proposed in the ‘70s that Paramount backed with a $1 million investment but never got off the ground.
