Film Movement Acquires Venice Winner 'The Dinner'

New York-based distribution company Film Movement has acquired all North American rights to Ivano De Matteo’s Italian ensemble drama, “The Dinner.”  The film won Best European Film at Venice Days and was acquired this week at the Rome Film Festival’s Business Street market.

Similar to morality plays such as “Carnage,” the drama centers around two couples who witness security footage of a vicious assault while out to dinner at a local restaurant. When one of the wives claims to have seen each couples’ child carrying out the attack, both families must navigate the repercussions of this senseless act and reveal their skewed priorities and moral shortcomings.

“Ivano de Matteo has made a tremendous adaptation of the controversial bestselling book,” said Michael Rosenberg, Co-President of Film Movement. “He has created a tense look at the relationships among parents and children and the morality of contemporary middle-class society.”

Film Movement will release “The Dinner” in 2015.
