Exclusive: Seed&Spark Expands From Crowdfunding to Distribution with Gravitas Ventures Partnership
Seed&Spark, the crowdfunding and transactional VOD destination dedicated to independent film, has partnered with Gravitas Ventures to distribute select Gravitas films on Seed&Spark’s curated streaming platform. The selection includes Gravitas films across all genres and will be added to Seed&Spark’s library as well as included in its thematic programming, Seed&Spark told Indiewire exclusively. The move marks an expansion from the site’s crowdfunding focus into the distribution arena. The company said that this news is only the beginning when it comes to distributor partnerships.
“In order for our company to impact the independent motion picture industry as a whole,” said Seed&Spark Founder and CEO Emily Best, “we must put ourselves in the position to add value to as many members of the community as possible—audiences, filmmakers and also distributors.”
Seed&Spark guarantees streaming distribution on their platform to filmmakers who crowdfund successfully with them. “Filmmakers would always ask what happens to that deal if they get picked up by a distributor,” Best said. “We felt it was our job to make sure our platform was also an outlet for distributors so that the deals our crowdfunding filmmakers sign with them automatically include a home on Seed&Spark streaming.”
Seed&Spark Director of Content Amanda Trokan added, “Gravitas is such a forward-thinking, filmmaker-friendly organization, we felt it was a natural fit for a partnership. What’s also exciting about including Gravitas films on our platform is that they will be available for rental right alongside films that came to us from filmmakers directly. This is the beginning of a Seed&Spark movement to bring the traditionally and non-traditionally distributed films together for the benefit of audiences who are indiscriminate in source but still appreciate the context that curation provides.”
