The President of the United States has been on the record for a while as being a huge fan of HBO’s seminal drama “The Wire.” But now, he’s taken his fandom to a new level.
In this intimate, 12-minute conversation, President Obama spoke with “The Wire” creator David Simon about the realities Simon depicted on screen during the show’s five-season run, especially when it came to the prosecution of drug crimes in inner cities.
“What drugs don’t destroy — the war against them rips everything else apart,” Simon says to the sitting President, while admitting to his astonishment that he’s talking about the original inspiration for Omar in the White House.
Obama’s overall message: “We’re all responsible for finding a solution to this.”
