While “Jurassic World” featured far more CGI than its “Park” brethren, it did not solely rely on green screens to terrify and wow audiences. Careful crafting was used in order to make special animatronics for scenes requiring closer looks at the dinosaurs.

One such scene occurs in the film when Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard discover a dying Apatosaurus. The dinosaur looks life-like, and Legacy Effects shows just how it was able to make it look so remarkable. John Rosengrant, co-owner of Legacy, details the lengthy process, which includes sculpting, 3D photography, rescaling and cooking rubber for its skin. Mechanics are eventually used to allow it to move and have life.
