Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Open Los Angeles Location

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, an Austin-based movie theater most known for its beer and food service, will be opening a location in downtown Los Angeles, according to the L.A. Times.

Alamo, which is known for showing the very best in independent film, not only gained a large following in Austin for its food and drink service, but also for its themed movie nights, special events and its strict no-advertisement and anti-cell phone policies. The Los Angeles location, located between 7th and Flower streets, will be an extension of this tradition.

“Alamo Drafthouse has reinvigorated the movie-watching experience, much the way we intend to re-imagine the traditional retail and entertainment experience and enliven the 7th Street corridor with the Bloc,” said project developer Wayne Ratkovich, founder and president of Ratkovich Co.

The downtown cinema, part of Los Angeles’ giant redevelopment project called The Bloc, will have nine screens, each of which will be equipped with 4K projection capabilities and will seat about 800 people. The theater will also be equipped for 3d and 35mm projection. The theater is expected to open in 2015. An Alamo theater in San Francisco is currently under construction and also expected to open in 2015.
