“De Niro has long been such a legendary presence that one can overlook the remarkably fine-tuned craft and quality he has brought to his roles over his multi-decade career,” Lesli Klainberg, Executive Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, said in a statement. “If you watch his performances, from ‘Mean Streets’ and ‘The Godfather Part II’ to ‘Raging Bull’ and ‘Awakenings’ and on to his more recent work in such films as ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ you see a dramatic range and unwavering commitment to his work.”

Jon Favreau will receive the Cinema Audio Society Filmmaker Award at the 53rd Annual CAS Awards in Los Angeles on February 18. After launching his acting career in 1993’s “Rudy,” Favreau wrote and starred in the acclaimed comedy “Swingers,” laying the foundation for his career as an actor, writer, director and producer. Favreau brought his directing credits to a new level by helming Marvel blockbusters “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2,” and most recently directed and produced Disney’s live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book,” currently the fourth highest-grossing film of the year.

“Jon has been a steadfast presence humanizing his storytelling with intelligence and skill,” CAS President Mark Ulano said in a statement. “His ubiquitous creativity continues to entertain millions and makes him a wonderful choice for the CAS Filmmaker Award.” Favreau will be the 12th CAS Filmmaker Honoree, following previous recipients including Jay Roach, Richard Linklater, Jonathan Demme and Quentin Tarantino.
