“Carol,” one of Indiewire’s most anticipated films of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel “The Price of Salt,” which follows the illicit lesbian affair between a married woman and a department store clerk in 1950s New York.
Directed by Todd Haynes (“Mildred Pierce,” “Far From Heaven”), the film stars Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “Elizabeth”) as the eponymous Carol and Rooney Mara (“Her,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) as store clerk Therese. Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler and Carrie Brownstein also star.
